FAQ

Dry Salt Therapy, also known as Halotherapy, is a complimentary wellness tool to improve respiratory issues, skin conditions, support detoxification, athletic performance and much more.

At Salt Life Spa we use 100% pure Himalayan salt that is Certified Organic and hand selected from the salt mines in Pakistan. The dry salt is placed into our state-of-the-art Halogenerator that grinds and disperses the salt into micro-particles in our special built Salt Room. At Salt Life Spa the Salt Room is specifically built with intentional ventilation, climate controlled temperatures and humidity levels to ensure the exact micro-particles are intentional for your session.

As these salt particles are dispersed into the room, patrons are inhaling these healing salts into the respiratory system and onto the skin’s surface all while you relax, read, rest, or meditate.

Dry Salt Therapy is easy to understand:
1. Sodium chloride (NaCl) Salt is very absorbent
2. Salt is anti-inflammatory
3. Salt is anti-bacterial

Dry Salt once inhaled opens airway passages and significantly reduces inflammation by breaking up and loosening mucous. The Dry Salt absorbs impurities in the respiratory system and on the skin. It naturally removes the allergens, toxins, and bacteria from the lungs and skin. Dry Salt Therapy benefits overall general health, but especially those who have suffered mold exposure, suffer from Allergies, Bronchitis COPD, Asthma, Cystic Fibrosis, and many other respiratory and ENT ailments, as well as skin conditions such as Psoriasis, Eczema, skin rigidity, and Acne.

Specific to Salt Life Spa’s Salt Rooms, the pure Himalayan Salt generates negative ions which help counterbalance the overload and influx of positive ions. This supports your overall mental health and allows you to relax and de-stress.

A Dry Salt Therapy Session lasts 25 minutes. A session must be reserved by scheduling an appointment on our website beforehand. Salt Life Spa provides a beautiful and spacious room with relaxing music to listen to during your session and comfortable seating.

We offer two Adult Salt Rooms, one of which is ADA compliant and one Kid’s Salt Room. Upon Request, Salt Life Spa offers private room sessions for your group or family needs.

Salt Life Spa provides more than just Salt Rooms. We offer Far Infrared Sauna experiences, Raindrop Technique Applications, and a Young Living Essential Oil teaching room.

Most Chronic conditions require frequency and consistency for optimum results. It is recommended that Clients start out at 2-4 sessions per week over a 14-21 days period and decrease as they see the benefits and gain more relief over time. Acute conditions may resolve more quickly.

Comfortable street clothing is best to wear for your salt session. Short sleeves and shorts allow skin to be treated.

Dry Salt Therapy is 100% Drug Free and 100% Natural, there are no adverse side effects.
A sign the Salt Therapy is working is to experience a slight cough as the salt disperses throughout the airways and allows the body to expel any mucous. The sessions are very relaxing and allows the body to naturally clear the lungs of toxins. Do not stop any medications your physician has prescribed.

  • Depending on the age and the stage of your condition, 20-30 sessions are recommended for long term results.  (See studies below.)
  • The sessions should be frequent; about two or three a week is suggested.
  • For acute and irreversible conditions, two to three-month follow-up sessions are recommended to maintain the clear lungs.
  • Monthly preventative and maintenance sessions are strongly recommended as we are bombarded with ions, viruses, bacteria, allergens, and toxins daily.
  • For most of our patrons, after a course of Dry Salt Therapy, airways become normal and symptoms disappear.

Dry Salt Therapy is provided all over the globe, most prevalent in Russia, Eastern Europe and Canada, where doctors have routinely prescribed Dry Salt Therapy for patients.  Experiencing multiple Dry Salt Therapy sessions allow most people to experience a period of remission from their respiratory and skin conditions.

Below is a detailed list of conditions as well as the suggested number of consecutive sessions, as used in Russian clinics and health spas across the globe. These research numbers should not be treated as a prescription, but rather as suggested guidelines for treatment based on research (see citation below). Patrons of Salt Life Spa should be attentive to their own unique health needs/conditions and make decisions about treatment based on the way their bodies respond.  As always, consult with your physician regarding Dry Salt Therapy as a complimentary wellness tool.

Lungs are not fully developed until around the age of 9-years-old. Children are more prone to respiratory issues because their little bodies pick up more viruses and their lungs are not fully developed. Stress, diet, and lifestyle effects our health as adults and is the same for children. Equipping our children with the tools they need to succeed is so important.

Excellent Question!! Fairhope sits right on Mobile Bay and just miles from the sugar sand beaches of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. As tranquil as Bay and Beach living are, the salt in the air at the beach is not dry, it is wet and moist.
The salt content in the air is due to evaporation from the Gulf. The salt particles become saturated and can no longer be absorbent. Benefits of wet salt can not be received on a therapeutic level like dry salt therapy can therapeutically benefit the respiratory system.
Dry Salt Therapy is very absorbent and works like a cool toothbrush to adhere and scrub out unwanted pathogens.

No you should not stop taking your medication. Your licensed medical physician who prescribed your medication is the only one who can remove you from taking the medication. Dry Salt Therapy is a complimentary wellness tool, which absolutely works to do just that – compliment you on your wellness journey to achieve health.

Infrared Sauna for Children (Including Special Needs Kids)

Dr

Some of our favorite people – the good folks at The Doctors’ Prescription for Healthy Living magazine and Dr. Rachel West – recently came across our radar with an article on using infrared saunas to help kids (including those with special needs) stay healthy.
Dr. West, a long-time partner of Sunlighten and supporter of our mission to empower wellness, is nationally regarded for her work with children who have attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorders including Asperger’s syndrome. She combines many therapies and modalities together with diet and nutrition—and she frequently uses infrared sauna as part of her healthy child programs.
She is quoted in the Healthy Living article as saying, “We do the same kind of detox for kids as we do for adults.” Dr. West believes strongly that there is an environmental component to our most difficult childhood neurological and behavioral health challenges.
For example, in a 2010 paper in the journal Neuro-Toxicology, Dr. Amir Miodovnik, a pediatrician at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and his colleagues showed that children who had been exposed to high levels of phthalates prenatally were more likely to show social impairments at seven to nine years of age.
Dr. West also considers viruses, heavy metals, preservatives and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from plastics as other top environmental influences. In the Healthy Living article, she notes:
“And special-needs kids invariably benefit when their body’s elimination pathways are working optimally. Indeed, some of the most recent research suggests that the environment plays a powerful role in causing or exacerbating these health challenges that involve behavioral, neurological and physical symptoms.”
and
“The nice thing is that far infrared actually penetrates at cellular levels so it will help clean out organ tissues and disconnect cells from toxins that may be blocking pathways and at very low heat, which is safe for children.”
Dr. West also finds the infrared sauna helpful for kids to just relax! They can sit in the sauna and get their blood moving, break a good sweat and feel restored and recharged. It gives them some much needed “down time”. Teenagers with skin conditions and children with psoriasis find the sauna helps with their skin blemishes.
More from Healthy Living and Dr. West:
“The lactic acid [that builds up in kids’ muscles] makes kids feel like they want a massage, and the saunas feel great on their joints and muscles,” she says. “And keep in mind it isn’t the heat that counts, but the penetration and the benefits of infrared sauna that can occur at low heat. We see oxygenation of cells and better sleep,” she says. “Since sauna restores and calms the nervous system and heat is nurturing, many parents have their kids take a sauna in preparation for bedtime or before their evening bath or shower.”
Remember, the infrared sauna is used with an entire health program. Dr. West says taking a sauna three times a week, for 20 minutes to start, is a good regimen for kids.
Our thanks to Healthy Living and to Dr. West for sharing this terrific information about infrared sauna and kids! Do you use the sauna as a family?
